From 1972 to 1978, it was known as Shanghai Normal University after combining four other ones including East China Normal University. In 1978 it was restored to Shanghai Teachers College, and was renamed as Shanghai Teachers University in 1984. It combined with Shanghai Teachers College of Technology in October 1994 to form a new Shanghai Normal University. From September 1997 to August 2003, SHNU took in successively the following units as its subordinates: Shanghai Teacher Training College, Department of Human Sanitation and Health of Huangling Teacher School, Shanghai Xingzhi Art School, and Shanghai Tourism Institute. The university has 16 colleges and 81 research bodies. Also located in SHNU are, among others, Shanghai Teachers Training Center, Shanghai College Teachers Training Center, and the Editorial Department of Academic Abstracts of Liberal Arts of College Journals.
Central South University
Central South University (CSU) is a comprehensive and national key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education in China. CSU was established in April, 2000 on the basis of the amalgamation of the three former individual universities, namely Central South University of Technology, Hunan Medical University and Changsha Railway University. CSU is situated in Changsha, Hunan. Gao Wenbing is secretary of the Communist Party of China's CSU Committee, and Prof.Huang Boyun, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, is president of CSU.
Tsinghua University
Tsinghua University was established in 1911, originally under the name ¡°Tsinghua Xuetang¡±. The school was renamed "Tsinghua School" in 1912. The university section was founded in 1925. The name "National Tsinghua University" was adopted in 1928.
The faculty greatly valued the interaction between Chinese and Western cultures, the sciences and humanities, the ancient and modern. Tsinghua scholars Wang Guowei, Liang Qichao, Chen Yinque and Zhao Yuanren, renowned as the "Four Tutors" in the Institute of Chinese Classics, advocated this belief and had a profound impact on Tsinghua's later development.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the University was molded into a polytechnic institute focusing on engineering in the nationwide restructuring of universities and colleges undertaken in 1952. In November 1952, Mr. Jiang Nanxiang became the President of the University. He made significant contributions in leading Tsinghua to become the national center for training engineers and scientists with both professional proficiency and personal integrity.
Since China opened up to the world in 1978, Tsinghua University has developed at a breathtaking pace into a comprehensive research university. At present, the university has 14 schools and 56 departments with faculties in science, engineering, humanities, law, medicine, history, philosophy, economics, management, education and art. The University has now over 25,900 students, including 13,100 undergraduates and 12,800 graduate students. As one of China¡¯s most renowned universities, Tsinghua has become an important institution for fostering talent and scientific research.
International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science
IFToMM was founded as the International Federation for the Theory of Mechanisms and Machines in Zakopane, Poland on September 29, 1969 during the Second World Congress on TMM (Theory of Mechanisms and Machines).
A first World Congress was held in 1965 in Varna, Bulgaria during which the foundation of IFToMM was planned as later it was agreed during the Second World Congress on TMM in Zakopane, Poland. The Congress series was immediately recognized as the IFToMM World Congress and today in 2007 we are celebrating the 12th event with a participation of 48 Member Organizations.
The IFToMM community has grown continually over time and the TMM has evolved to encompass large engineering science, including even new disciplines. This led in the year 2000 to an update of the name of the IFToMM Federation as IFToMM International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science and a change of the name of TMM to MMS (Mechanism and Machine Science), in order to emphasize the modernity and broader mission of the IFToMM community.
Hunan Agricultural University
Hunan Agricultural University (HUNAU), a key provincial university of Hunan with a beautiful campus of 2.27 square kilometers, is situated in Furong District of Changsha. The beautiful scenery of Liuyang River and Lake Donghu, the fresh air, and tranquil surroundings enlisted the university as a member of the provincial garden-like organizations.
HUNAU was established in 1951 on the basis of two colleges: the Agricultural College of Hunan University and the Hunan Provincial Xiuye Agricultural and Forestry College, and was called Hunan Agricultural College. It was not renamed Hunan Agricultural University until 1994.
After more than half century's development, HUNAU has evolved from an agriculture-oriented teaching organization into an integrated university. In 1978, HUNAU started to grant degrees of master. In 1987, it began to grant degrees for doctors. And in 1995, the post-doctoral scientific study and research station was established in this university. HUNAU enrolls the students from all over the country. Today, more than 50,000 students from 31 provinces study here, including 24,000 undergraduates, 26,000 adult-education students, 3000 masters and doctors. During the past fifty-five years, HUNAU has cultivated more than 100,000 elites for our society. At present, HUNAU owes 1127 teachers, 1 engineering academician, 157 doctors tutors, 432 masters tutors, 234 professors and 515 association professors. Among them, 4 teacher were awarded the title of National Outstanding Experts, 63 were the experts receiving government special allowance,18 were awarded as the provincial excellent experts.

It relates to the design of systems, devices and products aimed at achieving an optimal balance between basic mechanical structure and its overall control. The purpose of this journal is to provide rapid publication of topical papers featuring practical developments in mechatronics. It will cover a wide range of application areas including consumer product design, instrumentation, manufacturing methods, computer integration and process and device control, and will attract a readership from across the industrial and academic research spectrum. Particular importance will be attached to aspects of innovation in mechatronics design philosophy which illustrate the benefits obtainable by an a priori integration of functionality with embedded microprocessor control. A major item will be the design of machines, devices and systems possessing a degree of computer based intelligence. The journal seeks to publish research progress in this field with an emphasis on the applied rather than the theoretical. It will also serve the dual role of bringing greater recognition to this important area of engineering.
